Project Title:Understanding the role and biochemical properties of proteins involved in the repair of DNA Double Strand Breaks (DSBs).
Abstract

The persistence of M. tuberculosis inside the host, and to counter the deleterious effects on its genome, leads to the presumption that it possesses effective DNA repair systems. Therefore, genetic, biochemical and structural characterization of DNA repair proteins may provide insights into the DNA damage repair systems present in mycobacteria, which in turn might help in effective targeting of M. tuberculosis. The studies on DNA repair systems in pathogenic verses non pathogenic mycobacteria suggest significant differences, which further reinforce the need to characterize the individual DNA repair proteins. In our studies, we are trying to decipher the role of proteins involved in the repair of Double Strand Breaks (DSBs).
